Photographic Archive – New Collections

A significant quantity of digitsed photographs from the IRRS Archive has been prepared for members’ accessibility via the Society’s Flickr photostream. (updated August 2020)

There are now over 3,200 images uploaded. This material represents some of the prominant photographic collections held by the Society, with more being prepared for future uploading. The first to be made available was from the IRRS member Patrick J Flanagan, author and historian on various Irish industrial and transport subjects; Highlights from this collection include:

  • Cavan & Leitrim Railway
  • Dundalk Newry & Greenore Railway (infrastructure)
  • Steam and diesel traction throughout Ireland.
  • CIÉ bus-fleet

The forthcoming online access to the photo-collections represents the culmination of many years of voluntary work in conserving, cataloguing and digitising undertaken by Ciarán Cooney, IRRS Hon Photographic Archivst, who has personnally funded much of the photographic equipment, software and hardware to enable such accessibility to come to fruition, as well as creating the Society’s online presence and featured content through its website, Flickr (recently upgraded to Pro-account to facilitate greater quantity of images) Youtube and other IRRS’s social media channels (Twitter).
